Indonesia Will Leave Board of Peace If It Fails Palestine

According to ANTARA News, Nafis said that Prabowo made his stance on the Board of Peace clear.

"The president said that if BoP policy later involves steps that are not in line with our position, we (Indonesia) will abstain and be absent from participation. Then if it truly does not suit us and Indonesia cannot do anything, he is ready to withdraw from the BoP,” he said.

As for Anwar, he emphasized that Prabowo's commitment is to Palestine and its people, per the Jakarta Globe.

"The president’s first commitment is to genuinely fight within the Board of Peace for the full independence and sovereignty of Palestine,” Anwar explained.

“At the same time, he is committed to using this forum to help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza," the MUI chairman added.

The Effect of Indonesia's Membership on Defense Budget

Indonesia's Board of Peace membership comes at the cost, and it seems that the budget will be taken from defense.

According to a separate Jakarta Globe report, the Defense Ministry will fund the US$1 billion needed to become a member of the Board of Peace, which is headed by US President Donald Trump.

Per the report, this will reduce the ministry's budget by 9%. The defense ministry Rp 187.1 trillion (approximately $11.1 billion) this year.
