Indonesia has announced that it will pay farmers in disaster-hit Sumatra a daily wage in order to help rehabilitate rice fields.
This covers farmers from Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, where the worst of the flooding last month took place.

Indonesia to Pay Sumatra Farmers Daily Wages
According to a report by ANTARA News, the payment of daily wages is the government's effort to provide farmers will income as recovery and rehabilitation continues in Sumatra.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said that "Our farmers earn daily income while working on their own fields, while land preparation, seeds, and irrigation are fully covered by the central government."
The ANTARA News report notes that rice field damage in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra reached 98,002 hectares. Aceh recorded the largest area at 54,233 hectares.
North Sumatra's damaged area totalled 37,318 hectares, while West Sumatra totalled 6,451 hectares.

Thousands of Indonesians are continuing to recover following the disastrous flooding that hit Sumatra towards the end of 2025.
Cyclone Senyar caused flooding in different provinces of Sumatra when it hit in November, killing more than 1,000 people. Since then, the government has made numerous efforts to rehabilitate the affected areas and help citizens to recover.
The government has also filed lawsuits against firms it believes to have caused environmental damage that led to the flooding, according to Jakarta Globe.
The government is seeking Rp 4.8 trillion ($283.9 million) in compensation.
