Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian wants the housing construction in Sumatra to begin quickly to help victims of the flooding recover from the disaster.
Because of this, he is amping up the calls for regional governments to submit data on the residents affected by flooding as soon as possible. The minister is also urgently requesting that the land be prepared so that construction can begin sooner rather than later.

Home Affairs Minister Wants Housing Construction to Start ASAP
According to a report by ANTARA News, the housing that will be built will be for families whose homes were destroyed or heavily damaged by the flooding.
"The faster the land can be prepared to be clear and clean, the faster we can move forward," Tito said in a statement.
It should be noted that "clear and clean" means that the land is legally secure and does not have any disputes. The land should likewise be feasible for housing construction.
Many Flooding Victims Without Clean Water, Food
A month after the November flooding that claimed the lives over more than 1,000 people, a BBC report notes that many victims of the flooding are still without clean water and food. Many are also still without electricity as well as necessary medical supplies.
On Thursday, residents of Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh, took the streets with white flags, demanding that foreign aid be allowed to help victims. Aceh was severely affected by the flooding and saw widespread destruction.
According to the report, the provincial government has already reached out to the United Nations for help. However, President Prabowo Subianto previously said that international aid was not necessary since the national government had the situation "under control."
He has assured the public that the national government is doing everything it can to help the victims.
