The former Prince Andrew, the younger brother of United Kingdom's King Charles III, has been arrested on Thursday

Now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has been accused of misconduct in public office over allegations that he shared confidential information with disgraced pedophile Jeffrey Epstein while serving as trade envoy.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Arrested

According to a report by The Guardian, the arrest took place just after 8 a.m. on Thursday, the day of the former prince's 66th birthday.

The Thames Valley police released a statement regarding the arrest.

"We have today (19/2) arrested a man in his 60s from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk," the statement reads. "The man remains in police custody at this time.”

Per a report by IB Times Australia, King Charles III threw his support to the police investigation in a statement about his brother's arrest.

"In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation," said King Charles. "Let me state clearly: the law must take its course."

Virginia Giuffre's Family Releases Statement

The family of the late Virginia Giuffre, who accused Andrew of sexual assault when she was only 17 years old, also shared a statement on the arrest, according to The Sun.

"At last, today, our broken hearts have been lifted at the news that no one is above the law, not even royalty," the family said in a statement.

“On behalf of our sister, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, we extend our gratitude to the UK’s Thames Valley Police for their investigation, and the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor," the statement continued. “He was never a prince. For survivors everywhere, Virginia did this for you.”

Giuffre took her own life last year.
