The visit of Australia's Minister for Home Affairs, Immigration and Citizenship, Cyber Security and the Arts, Tony Burke, has been a busy and productive one.

The Australian minister met with key Indonesian officials to discuss creative economy and security cooperation between the two nations.

Creative Economy Cooperation

Burke met with Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya to reaffirm both countries' commitment to strengthening creative economy cooperation, according to a report by ANTARA News.

"Indonesia and Australia have seen their creative economy cooperation grow over the years," Harsya said in a statement.

"We hope 2026 will mark a crucial phase for broadening collaboration across sub-sectors and strengthening our bilateral strategic partnership," he added.

Among the topics discussed during this meeting are the preparations for the 11th Australia-Indonesia Cinema Festival (FSAI). Australia's participation in the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026 was likewise discussed. WCCE 2026 is set to be held in Indonesia.

Security Cooperation

Burke likewise met with Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago to discuss security cooperation between the two nations.

According to a report by RRI, transnational crime, particularly illegal drug trade, was one of the topics discussed. Burke and Djamari likewise had discussions regarding domestic and regional security, illegal migration, and cybersecurity, among others.

Djamari emphasized that both countries are committed to combating illegal shipping and fishing, human trafficking, and drug smuggling, as well as cyber threats.
