The fashion and handicraft industries have contributed Rp 476.3 trillion (approximately US$28.4 billion) to Indonesia's creative economy exports from January to November 2025.

Specifically, the the fashion subsector contributed Rp 274.7 trillion (approximately US$16.37 billion). The handicrafts industry, on the other hand, contributed Rp 201.9 trillion (approximately US$12.03 billion).

Fashion, Handicrafts Tremendous Contribution to Creative Economy Exports

According to a report by ANTARA News, the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, lauded the contributions of both industries.

Speaking at the opening of the 2026 International Handicraft Trade Fair (Inacraft), the minister said that "These figures highlight the strategic role of fashion and handicrafts as key drivers of Indonesia’s creative trade."

Harsya also emphasized the role of Inacraft in the education and promotion of Indonesia's handicraft industry, as well as the collaboration of all stakeholders.

"We hope Inacraft will continue to be a strategic partner of the government in advancing Indonesian handicrafts that are competitive, distinctive, and globally oriented, while delivering tangible impacts on the national economy,” the minister said.

According to Statista, revenue of the fashion market is projected to reach US$10.35 billion this year.

The handicrafts market, on the other hand, is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6% from 2024 to 2030, according to Grand View Research.

Boosting Indonesia's Creative Economy Globally

The Indonesian government has placed much importance on the country's creative economy and ensures key collaborations with foreign nations to strengthen it.

As an example, it was previously reported here on Business Times Indonesia that Australia's Minister for Home Affairs, Immigration and Citizenship, Cyber Security and the Arts, Tony Burke, previously met with Harsya to reaffirm both countries' commitment to strengthening creative economy cooperation.

"We hope 2026 will mark a crucial phase for broadening collaboration across sub-sectors and strengthening our bilateral strategic partnership," Harsya said in a statement at that time.
